Youth Media Guyana in collaboration with UNICEF hosted a Youth Photo Exhibition in observance of United Nations International Youth Day (IYD) 2012, under the theme, “Building a Better World: Partnering with Youth” – A global call to action to develop and engage in partnerships with and for youth. IYD is also a day to celebrate the positive achievements of youth all over the world.
The aim of the photo exhibition was to showcase the work and activities being undertaken by youth organizations, youth groups, and/or individuals/entities working to foster youth development in Guyana. Groups submitted photos that focused on the themes related to the priority areas of the UN Secretary-General’s Five-year Action Agenda and the development of a UN System Wide Action Plan (SWAP) on Youth, namely:
- Sexual and Reproductive Health;
- Political Inclusion;
- Protection Of Rights
The United Nations Volunteer (UNV) Programme also facilitated an information booth at the exhibition to build awareness about their work and their upcoming “I Love Beautiful Guyana Project – Art Competition” which is open to all ages.
The children who viewed the one-day exhibition were given information about their rights at the UNICEF information desk as well as how they can use YMG as a platform for their voices, thereby contributing to their society as positive agents of change.
