UNICEF, Fundación Telefónica, OIT y la Red Social Sonico, Anuncian la Segunda Edición del Concurso Investigativo LACVOX para Adolescentes Comunicadores

El Concurso LACVOX 2010 promovido por UNICEF, OIT y auspiciado por Fundación Telefónica, con apoyo de Sonico, busca concienciar a los niños, a las niñas y a la sociedad sobre el trabajo infantil y sobre los derechos de los niños, niñas y adolescentes.

Panamá, Madrid, Lima 9 de agosto de 2010 – La Red Regional LACVOX de adolescentes comunicadores, anuncia el segundo Concurso Investigativo LACVOX. En esta ocasión el tema es el derecho de los niños a una educación y a un desarrollo saludable sin trabajo infantil.

UNICEF y OIT comparten la meta regional de erradicar las peores formas de trabajo infantil para el 2015 y todas las formas de trabajo infantil para 2020 y cuentan con el apoyo de aliados como

Fundación Telefónica y Sonico para promover los derechos de los niños y las niñas en toda la región.

El concurso conmemora el Año Internacional de la Juventud de las Naciones Unidas, que rescata el valor de las contribuciones de los jóvenes en la creación de políticas, programas y proyectos favorables para su desarrollo.

El certamen estará recibiendo propuestas de las y los participantes hasta el 24 de septiembre 2010. Las y los adolescentes, deberán responder preguntas relacionadas con la problemática del trabajo infantil y aportar soluciones que desde su perspectiva ayudarían a garantizar los derechos vulnerados de los niños y niñas que trabajan.

El concurso es gratuito y abierto a todas las y los adolescentes de la región y los participantes pueden optar por producir sus reseñas, como individuos, grupos o escuelas, ya sea en español, inglés o portugués dentro de las distintas categorías que admite el concurso:

Categoría de 9 – 14 años                               
• Premio al mejor reportaje de radio
• Premio al mejor reportaje de prensa
• Premio al mejor reportaje de TV                                           
• Premio al mejor reportaje fotográfico
• Premio al mejor afiche
 

Categoría de 15 – 18 años
• Premio al mejor reportaje de radio

• Premio al mejor reportaje de TV
• Premio al mejor reportaje fotográfico
• Premio al mejor afiche

Los miembros del jurado evaluarán el método de investigación, el tratamiento de la información, la originalidad y la creatividad con la que se trate el tema del trabajo infantil en relación con los derechos de los niños.

Las y los ganadores tendrán la oportunidad de viajar a Bogotá, Colombia el 3 y 4 de noviembre para presentar sus propuestas en el III Encuentro Internacional contra el Trabajo Infantil que impulsa Fundación Telefónica con el apoyo de OIT. Además, mediante su participación en el III Encuentro podrán debatir sobre el trabajo infantil con expertos y hacer sus aportaciones para encontrar soluciones conjuntas. Las y los ganadores también serán capacitados en la producción de materiales audiovisuales y cubrirán el desarrollo del III Encuentro como parte de esta experiencia integral de aprendizaje.

¿Qué es LACVOX?
LACVOX es la Red Regional de Adolescentes Comunicadores de América Latina y el Caribe. Una red de redes impulsada por UNICEF a nivel regional que promueve la participación adolescente en América Latina y el Caribe. Se fundamenta en los derechos estipulados en la Convención sobre los Derechos del Niño y promueve el fortalecimiento holístico de las capacidades de los niños, niñas y adolescentes que la conforman.

Acerca de OIT
Desde su creación, la Organización Internacional del Trabajo – OIT ha llevado a cabo esfuerzos para la prevención y erradicación del trabajo infantil. Como único organismo de Naciones Unidas de constituciópn tripartita (conformada por gobiernos, organizaciones de empleadores y de trabajadores), ha promovido la ratificación de los Convenios núm. 138 (sobre la edad minima de admisión al empleo) y núm. 182 (sobre las peores formas de trabajo infantil). Asimismo, ha incluído el tema como uno de los objetivos de la Agenda Hemisférica para generar Trabajo Decente en las Américas para el período 2006-2015, colocando como una prioridad urgente la eliminación de las peores formas de trabajo infantil. A través del Programa Internacional para la Erradicación del Trabajo Infantil – IPEC (por sus siglas en inglés), concentra sus esfuerzos en prestar asistencia técnica a los países para el diseño y puesta en marcha de una política nacional efectiva, destinada a disminuir progresivamente el trabajo infantil. Incluye asesoría especializada en aspectos legislativos  tendientes a la aplicación y cumplimiento efectivo de los convenios fundamentales de la OIT núm.138 y núm. 182 referidos al trabajo infantil.

                                                

UNICEF, the Telefonica Foundation, ILO, and the SONICO Social Network Announce the Second Season of the LACVOX Research Contest for Adolescent Communicators

The 2010 LACVOX Contest, promoted by UNICEF and ILO, sponsored by Telefonica Foundation, and supported by the  SONICO Social Network, wants to raise awareness to children and society about the issues of child labour and the rights of children.

Panama, Madrid, Lima, August 9, 2010 – The LACVOX Regional Network of Adolescent Communicators launches the second season of the LACVOX Research Contest. This years’ theme is the rights of children to an education and a healthy development without child labour.

UNICEF and ILO share the regional goal in seeking to eradicate the worst forms of child labour by 2015 and all forms of child labour by 2020. Both are supported by partners such as the Telefonica Foundation and Sonico Social Network to guarantee the rights of children throughout the region.

The contest commemorates the United Nations’ International Year of Youth, which advocates for the value of young people’s contribution in the creation of policies, programmes, and constructive projects for their development.           

The contest will be accepting entries from participants until September 24, 2010. Adolescents should respond to questions related to the issue of child labour and must contribute with solutions from their perspective that could help guarantee the rights of children who do work.

The contest is free and open to all adolescents in the region from 9 to 18 years old. Participants can opt to produce their own entries as individuals, groups, or schools either in Spanish, English, or Portuguese within these categories that the contest admits:

9-14 years of age:

• Prize for the best radio report

• Prize for the best press release

• Prize for the best TV report• Prize for the best photographic report

• Prize for the best poster

15-18 years of age:

• Prize for the best radio report

• Prize for the best press release

• Prize for the best TV report

• Prize for the best photographic report

• Prize for the best poster

The judges will evaluate the investigative method, the information included, the originality, and the creativity of the materials submitted in relation to the contest´s theme: child labour and the rights of children.

The winners will have the opportunity to travel to Bogota, Colombia on November 3 and 4 to present their proposals during the III International Meeting against Child Labour, sponsored by Telefonica Foundation with support from ILO. Furthermore, during their participation in the Meeting, the winners will be able to discuss with experts and contribute with their possible solutions on the issue of child labour. The winners will also be trained in the production of audiovisual materials and will cover the events of the III Child Labour Meeting as adolescent journalists as part of their learning experience.

What is LACVOX?

LACVOX is a regional network of adolescent communicator networks in Latin America and the Caribbean. It is promoted by UNICEF and encourages adolescent participation within the region as one of the rights stipulated in the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The network promotes the strengthening of the capabilities of its children and adolescent members.

UNICEF AND SPONSORS ANNOUNCE THE WINNERS OF THE LACVOX RESEARCH CONTEST FOR ADOLESCENT COMMUNICATORS

Panama, November 17th, 2009 – The UNICEF Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, Sony, the social network Sonico, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Albatros Media Foundation, announced the winners of the LACVOX Research contest for adolescent communicators. The theme of this first edition was: “the Environment and the indigenous people”.

Children from different parts of the region participated and the winners correspond to the following countries: Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, Peru, and Venezuela, reflecting the selection of the best works produced in the two segments:

The 9 to 14 years old Category:

• Best Radio report Award -  Red de Comunicadores from Apurimac, Peru
• Best written report Award: – Michelle Sofía Mora Morales, Venezuela
• Best TV/Video report Award – Network NNACE, Jefferson y Jelsy, Ecuador
• Best photographic report Award– Luis Guillén, Panama
• Best Poster Project Award– Diocelina Clara Barranco, Panama

The 15 to 18 years old Category:

• Best Radio report Award – vacant
• Best written report Award – Karen Alba, Cristina Hernández y Mariela Ruiz, México
• Best TV/Video report Award – Oziel Aleste Marques, Brasil
• Best photographic report Award – Natalia Andrea Guzmán Vallejos, Colombia
• Best Poster Project Award – Adriana Estefanía Gaitán, Colombia

The LACVOX Contest also encouraged the participation of schools in the region; as a result, the Instituto Educacional Juan XIII from Venezuela was selected winner of this category.

Additionally, in the 9 to 14 years old category, an honorable mention was given to the children of the Kine Foundation, Argentina, for its series of TV reports, and to the girls of the South Star Project Apernij hito from Chile.

The Regional Network of Adolescent Communicators – LACVOX which brings together the networks of adolescent communicators from various areas in the region launched this event from July 31 through October 15, 2009. The contest provided a window of opportunity for children and adolescents who individually, in groups, or as part of communicators’ networks, decided to exercise their right to participate by submitting their work about the environment and the indigenous people.

The jury deliberated for hours before selecting the winners from each category. Eileen Moyle, a sociologist representing the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), Antonia Alba Andreve, representing the National Organization of Indigenous Women in Panama (CONAMUIP), Sergio Cambefort, television producer representing Taxi Films, and Alejandro Maimone, photographer representing the Albatros Media Foundation, were part of the LACVOX Competition jury.

The award ceremony took place in the Museo del Canal Interoceánico de Panama, in Panama City, with the Panamanian children Diocelina Clara and Luis Guillen, representing the rest of the winners from the neighboring countries. They each received Sony cameras, a certificate from UNICEF and a Book on biodiversity donated by the Albatros Media Foundation. The event commemorated the 20th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The Regional Network of Adolescent Communicators – LACVOX represents one of the many forms of participation amongst children and adolescents. UNICEF and its partners encourage participation to promote their rights, in an atmosphere of respect for gender equity and different cultures. Through traditional and alternative media, children and adolescents demonstrate their capacity for public debate on matters affecting their rights, aspirations and concerns.
